Egremont Castle retains its Green Flag and Green Heritage.

The Castle and Grounds have retained the prestigious Green Flag and the Green Heritage Site award for 2005/06. The Castle and Grounds first won these awards in 2004/05 and were the first Cumbrian winners of the Green Heritage award, one of ony seven in the country.

Egremont has been awarded the Cumbria in Bloom award for 2004 and is looking forward to the 2005 competition.

Green Flag Award.
The Green Flag Award scheme has launched a brand new website, which contains information about the Green Flag Award, together with the Green Heritage Site accreditation, and the Green Pennant Award. For the first time ever, you can gain access to information and contact details for 182 quality parks and green spaces across England and Wales. These award winners provide free access to the public and offer a wealth of activities for all. Park managers can also find out how to bring their green space to Green Flag.

Cumbria in Bloom Award.
From its foundation in 1804, the Royal Horticultural Society has grown to be the world's leading horticultural organisation and the UK's leading gardening charity. We at the RHS continue our commitment to gardeners through inspirational flower shows, gardens, and over 1,000 lectures and demonstrations throughout the UK.

Green Heritage Site Award.
The aim of Green Heritage Site status is to promote the value of and the best practice in the care and upkeep of historic public parks. The Government's Urban Green Spaces Taskforce recommended that "nationally acceptable quality standards for managing and maintaining parks and green spaces" should be established.
